Kiwi drift legend "Mad Mike" Whiddett joins ROC New Zealand line-up

A favourite among fellow drivers and crowds alike, Whiddett is set to bring the energy to his first Race Of Champions. Red Bull athlete, Formula Drift Japan champion and long-time D1NZ star Whiddett is one of the most recognisable names in Kiwi motorsport. The Auckland-born driver grew up racing motocross before taking his talents to drifting, where he has competed around the world, including in Formula DRIFT USA.
Mike Whiddett said competing at the Race Of Champions on home soil was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
“I’ve spent my whole career sending cars sideways, so I can’t wait to see how I stack up when everyone’s on a level playing field. To represent New Zealand against some of the biggest names in motorsport in front of a home crowd in Wellington is such an honour and I just know the Kiwi fans are going to love it!”

Race Of Champions Co-Founder and President Fredrik Johnsson said Whiddett’s confirmation adds another hometown favourite to the event.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mad Mike to the line-up for the first ever Race Of Champions in New Zealand. Mike is one of the most spectacular drivers in the world with amazing car control. Together with Hayden Paddon they really know how to make any car go sideways and as fast as possible. It will be fascinating to see Mike and Hayden take on the international stars in identical cars in front of what we expect will be a sellout crowd at Hnry Stadium in Wellington in January.”
“Considering the long list of great drivers from New Zealand, we will have to add at least another Team representing the Host Country, with the drivers selected to be announced in the lead up to the event.”
Whiddett joins fellow New Zealander Hayden Paddon on the Race Of Champions Wellington line-up, with more local and international talent still to be revealed.
Hayden Paddon said:
“I’m really looking forward to representing New Zealand with Mad Mike. He is a true icon of drifting and I’m sure he will be versatile with the wide range of cars he has driven all around the world. And at least between the two of us we know how to go sideways and put on a show for the home fans!”
