The Race Of Champions headed to the Americas for the first time, visiting the tropical Caribbean paradise of Bushy Park Barbados. The field featured a wide range superstars from the world's leading motor sport series including ROC's first ever female driver, Susie Wolff.
It was Formula 1 veteran David Coulthard who surprised all the young guns by winning the Champion of Champions title for the first time. Coulthard knocked out FIA World Rallycross Champion Petter Solberg and V8 Supercar legend Jamie Whincup en route to the Grand Final. Then the Scotsman defeated Mercedes F1 test driver and rising star Pascal Wehrlein, who was no doubt hampered by his confession that he'd never before raced a car with gears...
Solberg earlier partnered newly-retired nine-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner Tom Kristensen to glory in the ROC Nations Cup for Team Nordic. The pair defeated Team France's Romain Grosjean and Esteban Ocon in the semi-final before sealing the title with victory over Team GB's Coulthard and Wolff.
The weekend featured the first ever ROC Caribbean competition, when Team Barbados of Rhett Watson and Dane Skeete delighted their home fans with a final victory over Team Jamaica's Doug Gore and Jeffrey Panton. There was also the first ever running of the ROC Skills Challenge, won by France's rising star Esteban Ocon. But when it came to crowd-pleasing nothing could top Robby Gordon's Stadium Super Trucks, which regularly took to the skies to massed roars of approval.
