No less than 53,000 people gathered at this classic German circuit to witness the second running of The Race Of Champions. This event featured the world’s first ever parallel rally track with drivers competing head-to-head in identical cars. This innovative format has been the basis for The Race of Champions ever since. 

Stig Blomqvist and Walter Röhrl contested the final, with the spoils ultimately going to the Swede. Marc Duez and Sepp Haider were the defeated semi-finalists. 

The races were run in a thrilling collection of cars including Opel Kadetts, Toyota Celicas, Audi S1s and Peugeot 205 Turbo 16s.
