The Race of Champions speed up with IEC in Sports

IMP (International Media Productions) and IEC in Sports have agreed a multiyear contract where IEC will distribute the international TV rights for the Race Of Champions.

The Race of Champions was created in 1988 by IMP and remains the only opportunity for drivers to race in exactly the same cars and on a parallel track. The premise is simple: using identical equipment on a parallel track, drivers can prove themselves based on their talent alone.

The Race of Champions is one of two disciplines that this fantastic Motorsport
spectacle offers. Sixteen of the world’s best go head-to-head in a series of knockout
heats to determine who is “The Champion of Champions”. In “The ROC Nations
Cup” ten teams go head-to-head to find out who is the fastest nation in the world.
With the spectacular “Bird’s Nest” stadium in Beijing being the venue of the 2009
edition, The Race of Champions 2009 gets even more special.

The high value and recognition of this event is proven year after year by the exceptional
quality of drivers participating in the races. This year amongst the event participants
will be 7-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher (Germany),
the current leader of the 2009 Formula One World Championship Jenson Button
(United Kingdom), the youngest ever Formula One race-winner Sebastian Vettel
(Germany), 8-time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen (Denmark), the 2-time DTM
Champion Mattias Ekström (Sweden) and the current leader of the 2009 World Rally
Championship Mikko Hirvonen (Finland), and the 2008 World Touring Car Champion Yvan Muller (France). Many more superstars from Formula One, Touring Cars, Rally & Motorcycle racing and X-Games will join them to provide Motorsport fans across the world with some of the most exciting, high speed action.

“We have been approached by various agencies, but chose to work with IEC, who just like The Race of Champions have grown impressively over the past few years. Together we look forward to expanding the worldwide audience for The Race of Champions even further in 2009-2010.“, commented IMP founder and President Fredrik Johnsson, regarding the 2009 edition of The Race of Champions and the cooperation with IEC in Sports.

Jonas Persson, CEO of IEC in Sports, says “We have known IMP and Fredrik Johnsson for a long time and we are delighted to be able to distribute this spectacular event. The setting in the Bird’s Nest in Beijing couldn’t be better and we are looking forward to several days of exciting racing with the best drivers in the world taking part.”
