Patricio O'Ward (known as Pato) began his racing career in 2005 racing Kid Karts in Mexico. As Pato worked his way up the karting ranks, the young gun captured three championship titles in Mexico and over four championships in the U.S. including a title victory at the 2010 SKUSA SuperNats in Las Vegas. O'Ward's latest karting championship titles came in the Stock Moto Junior S5 Class at the Texas Pro Kart Challenge, SKUSA SummerNats and SKUSA SuperNats all in 2012.
At the age of 13, Pato moved to Formula car racing in 2013 joining the Formula LATAM F2000 Series in Mexico, the Pacific F2000 Series in the U.S. and the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC Junior Series in Europe. The following year, the Mexican native captured his first formula car win at the famous Paul Ricard Circuit while competing in the ultra competitive French Formula 4 series.
From 2016 to 2017, Pato competed part time in Indy Lights with Team Pelfrey, taking part in 4 races, scoring a podium in St Pete. He also won the Weathertech SportsCar Championship and the North American Endurance Cup, both in the PC class.
In 2018, in his first complete season in Indy Light Series, Pato won the title with a record-setting nine pole positions, nine victories and podium finishes in 13 of 17 races.
