Jamie Whincup

Birth Date: 6 February 1983 Home Town: Gold Coast, Australia
Nationality: Australian Web: www.jamiewhincup.com.au

Jamie Whincup has dominated Australia's popular V8 Supercar championship in recent years, taking the title in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, in addition to finishing as runner-up in 2007 and 2010. He is now bidding for a record sixth title in 2014.

Whincup also has an enviable record in the flagship event of the series, the Bathurst 1000, which he again won in 2012 to go with his three victories in partnership with Craig Lowndes (2006, 2007 and 2008).

Whincup started karting at the early age of seven, and soon began winning regional competitions around Australia. He graduated to Formula Ford and duly took the national championship in 2002. With that performance he caught the eye of V8 Supercar team owner Garry Rogers, who gave him a run in his team. But his career really took off when he joined Triple Eight Race Engineering in 2006, when his run of Bathurst glory began. He was a title contender the following year and made it to the top in 2008, a position he is not keen to relinquish any time soon.

The Australian made his Race Of Champions debut in Bangkok in 2012, reaching the semi-finals of the ROC Nations Cup for Team Australia alongside motorcycling legend Mick Doohan.
