Jamie Whincup has begun to dominate Australia's popular V8 Supercar championship in recent years, taking the title in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012, in addition to finishing as runner-up in 2007 and 2010.
Whincup also has an enviable record in the flagship event of the series, the Bathurst 1000, which he again won in 2012 to go with his three victories in partnership with Craig Lowndes (2006, 2007 and 2008).
Whincup began karting at the early age of 7, and soon began winning regional competitions around Australia. He graduated to Formula Ford and duly took the national championship in 2002. With that performance he caught the eye of V8 Supercar team owner Garry Rogers, who gave him a run in his team. But his career really took off when he joined Triple Eight Race Engineering in 2006, when his run of Bathurst glory began. He was a title contender the following year and made it to the top in 2008, a position he is not keen to relinquish any time soon.
The Australian will make his Race Of Champions debut in Bangkok in 2012, racing alongside motorcycling legend Mick Doohan for Team Australia in the ROC Nations Cup.
