England VS Scotland at Wembley Stadium

• Wembley Stadium to be transformed into a custom-built tarmac race track for the 2007 Race of Champions
• Scotland and England driver line-ups will be at Wembley Stadium tomorrow (Wednesday)
• David Coulthard, Jenson Button, Colin McRae and Andy Priaulx confirmed for 2007

Motorsport stars will descend on Wembley this December, when the iconic stadium is transformed into a custom-built tarmac race track to find out who is the fastest in the Race of Champions.

The unique event features an incredible double bill that will see racers go head-to-head for the ultimate driver’s title as well as team up with countrymen in the patriotic Nations Cup.

Selected drivers from the most important motorsport disciplines will fight it out in identical cars to find who has the most natural pace in front of 80,000 fans, all with grandstand views of every instant of the action.

This Wednesday launches the countdown, with an exclusive preview of the epic England / Scotland match expected at the brand-new stadium in December. The two teams were the first to announce their driver line-ups and will meet organisers to find out how 1,800 tonnes of asphalt will transform the hallowed turf, after the last football match of the year is played.

"Obviously, Wembley’s quite an auspicious venue for any Scotsman!" said Red Bull Racing driver David Coulthard, who will partner 1995 World Rally Champion Colin McRae on the Scottish side. "We’ve had some pretty good moments there, not least beating England in 1967 and 1977 ... now it’s 2007 so I think it’s time for another victory for the Celts!

"I can’t wait to see what they do with the track. The Stade de France was completely transformed last year and it was a really entertaining circuit to drive on!"

England’s Jenson Button, who drives for Honda F1 Racing, is equally geared up for the challenge. "I'm really looking forward to competing in the Race of Champions for the first time this year at the new Wembley Stadium," said Button, who had to pull out in 2006 because of injury and will miss this Wednesday’s event due to testing in Jerez.

"It's fantastic for me that this year's event is being held in London and it will be great to race in front of my home crowd twice in one season."

"I'm very proud to be representing England against some of the world's best drivers. We're especially hoping to beat the Scottish team led by my fellow F1 driver and friend David Coulthard!"

Button will partner double FIA World Touring Car Champion, Andy Priaulx for the English side, with line-ups for other teams including Germany, France, USA, Finland and possibly a Team GB, set to be announced shortly.

"Last year was my first time," said BMW driver, Priaulx, who competed at the event when it was held in the Stade de France. "It’s a great show, great for fans because they can see the whole lap and all the drivers are on a level playing field.

"It’s a tough race; you don’t get a second chance. Now I’ve done it once, though, I know what to expect and I love it; it’s great fun."
